This class is geared towards kids between the ages of 10-14. This two part class is held completely outdoors (rain or shine). During this class, students will learn about being prepared for hikes, what to bring, how to get help in an emergency. They will begin assembling their “Ten Essentials” bag. Students will also learn about animal tracks and scat. They will make a take-home animal print cast. We will learn how to start a fire, build shelters and what to do if you get lost.
On day two, students will learn first aid with hands-on skills. They will also completed their Ten Essential kit with first aid supplies. The second part of the day will be spent learning map and compass (they will get to keep the compass), then go on an orienteering course. Class is limited to 10 students. Students are required to bring a backpack (school backpack is fine),a water bottle and personal snacks.
